Sunderland snatched a draw in the dying seconds against Fleetwood on Tuesday and it is fair to say that Joey Barton didn’t hold back in his complaints after the match.
Indeed, he used his post-match press conference to moan about Sunderland allegedly soaking the pitch to hinder his team (per the Sunderland Echo’s Richard Mennear), how the Black Cats play an unappealing brand of football and the difference in resources of the two clubs.
Above all, he was annoyed with the timing of Sunderland’s goal, as it came later than the six minutes of added-on time, and supporters have mocked the Fleetwood boss for his lack of knowledge about the rules of football. Now, he may be understandably frustrated as victory would have been huge for his side in their own promotion bid, but his comments have a bitter outlook and fans are joyfully ridiculing him as a result.
Many of the Stadium of Light faithful were likely annoyed by the Cod Army’s time-wasting tactics throughout the match and they have a bit of a history with Barton, who hinted earlier this season that Sunderland rearranged their visit to Highbury due to their lack of form at the time.
It seems the feud between Barton and the Sunderland fanbase is yet to die down, therefore, with the following reactions showing exactly that.

Barton: does not understand what the word minimum means

Should have thought of that Joey when your team were using over the top time wasting tactics. #karma

If his team didn’t time waste for the whole game there would never have been 6 minutes minimum of injury time. Cheating doesn’t pay off😂
