Leeds United desperately needed their win on Wednesday night to correct a recent run of form which had seen them win only one in four previous Championship games.
Swansea City, who had lost nine consecutive league games at Elland Road prior to kick off, were true to form and looked by far the weaker of the two sides.
Marcelo Bielsa had clearly set up to control proceedings, and within five minutes Kemar Roofe had already tested his range, collecting the ball 25 yards out and striking wide.
Pablo Hernandez was the next to have an opportunity to open the scoring feeding off a ball from winger Ezgjan Alioski but failed to make all his experience count scuffing his shot off target.
Leeds United’s dominance would finally pay off in the 20th minute.
Alioski’s bouncing shot from a corner found its way to Pontus Jansson in the area who duly dispatched the opportunity into the bottom corner.

Alioski was involved again as Leeds made it two just before half time. His cross was met by the glancing header of on-loan Jack Harrison and found its way into the back on the net.
Leeds didn’t slow after the break with a number of opportunities going their way but failed to capitalise like they had in the first half. And, for all their dominance, had a nervous end to the game following McBurnie’s successful spot kick in the 87th minute.
Pontus Jansson deservedly took home the Man of the Match award for his performance, but special mention should also be given to Kalvin Phillips.
The young star put in another quality dynamic performance last night. His distribution was quality from the off, keeping things ticking in the centre of the park, and his defensive work and recovery of possession was truly phenomenal. Well predicted interceptions, strong aerial presence, and tough tackling marked one of Phillips best performances in a white shirt.
