Transfer expert Dean Jones says that both Michael Keane and Moise Kean are ‘heading towards the exit door’ at Everton.
The Lowdown: Out of favour
Keane has only played a mere 22 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, having fallen behind summer arrivals Conor Coady and James Tarkowski in the centre-back pecking order on Merseyside.
Meanwhile, Kean has not played at Goodison Park since 2021, and is on loan at Juventus, who have an obligation to buy him at the end of this season.
The Latest: Double exit?
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones says that Keane and Kean are ‘heading towards the exit door’ at the Toffees in 2023:
“Yeah, I mean, they’re definitely looking. They’re open to Michael Keane leaving, from what I’m told.
“We’ll probably see both Keane and Kean leaving in 2023 because Moise Kean will end up leaving permanently as well.
“I think it’s natural that both of those are heading towards the exit door at the moment.”
The Verdict: Get rid
Given his lack of minutes, and the fact that Frank Lampard’s team signed Coady and Tarkowski in the summer, they can afford to let Keane go with sufficient cover in the central defensive area.
On £80,000-per-week as well, Keane is one of the Blues’ higher earners in the squad (FBRef), and so getting him off the wage books would help potentially fund one or two signings in the January transfer window.
As for Kean, he was earning just over £53,000-per-week at Everton before his loan move, and so losing him would also free up space on the wage bill, on top of the transfer fee they will receive for his departure. The striker only managed four goals in 39 games for the Toffees, and so will not be a big loss.
