Our Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern have accepted it’s going to be a mid-table finish this season for their club.
And, whilst they would have obviously liked to have returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking, they’ll probably take it for what it is now given how the season has been so up and down to date.
Indeed, even now Villa are raising eye-brows with them now on a three-game winning streak ahead of their match with Huddersfield tonight and so, if they can just be more consistent, promotion next season could be on the cards.
For Steve Bruce, though, there’s plenty of work still to do and for the amount of money they’ve spent on attacking players – his recent comments are pretty damning of the way things have gone in front of goal.
As quoted by the club’s official Twitter account, he said:

Certainly, Villa should have scored more goals with the likes of Jonathan Kodjia about and so there definitely needs to be work done on the training ground in that respect.
