Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still wearing pretty glum faces at the moment after what happened to their team on Monday night.

If you missed it, it was the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park and despite a bright start from the Toffees, Liverpool took the win in the fourth minute of second half injury time.

Losing like that is never an enjoyable experience, particularly to your fiercest rivals, and so despite our landlord’s best efforts, the Blues fans are still feeling just that – blue.

However, with a few decent signings in January they may have an enjoyable second half of the year and forget (almost) all about Monday night.

Our landlord agrees and reckons that if Ronald Koeman can manage to sign at least one of these three £20+ million (as valued by transfermarkt) players when the window opens, they could be set for a strong finish to the year…

Ivan Perisic £21.25m

With Yannick Bolasie out injured, Everton need a new, direct winger in their team.

The former Crystal Palace man has been replaced in the side by the likes of Aaron Lennon and Enner Valencia but neither have really impressed so it’s time for Koeman to dip into the market for a wide-man. Perisic could be just the ticket, too, as he is straight to the point with the ball, hugs the touch line and has a corking left foot that’d delight the Goodison crowd.

Kostas Manolas £21.25m

The Greek centre half is a class act and the kind of player Everton should be looking at if they want to reach that next level.

European football has to be the aim for the Toffees this season and so signing Manolas from AS Roma would be a big statement. They’d be doing very well to get him from the Serie A side but with their new financial muscle they simply have to try and get him into their team.

Morgan Schneiderlin £23.8m

Schneiderlin is another top player when he gets given the chance to show as such.

The Frenchman is a very good holding midfielder and commands a decent range of passing so he’d certainly add some class and guile to the central areas for the Toffees. He’s not getting a sniff at Manchester United this season so with a decent enough bid the Blues should be confident that they can bring him in in January.
