Sunderland: Many fans are tired of Will Grigg after his penalty miss

In our Flashback series, last week we wrote about how Will Grigg needed to step up for Sunderland in the absence of Charlie Wyke, putting things right after his early struggles at the Stadium of Light.
Well, he literally had the chance to step up to the penalty spot and help the club make it to the last eight in the Carabao Cup, but he messed it up in spectacular fashion.
Can Duncan Watmore still come good after his injury hell?
Yes

No

With everyone before him having tucked their penalty away up to that point, he sent his effort flying over the bar, as shown in the highlights video on Sky Sports.
It seemed pretty clear that the response to the update wasn’t going to be the best, especially as the Black Cats went on to lose the shootout after Marc McNulty had his effort saved:
Grigg misses.

So it proved, as many Sunderland fans indicated they weren’t surprised by the fact the Northern Ireland international let them down, with one calling him the club’s “worst signing in years”.
Even Phil Parkinson showed his discontent at the strike as he was quoted in the Sunderland Echo as saying: “He’s not the first one to miss a penalty but we are frustrated that he didn’t make the keeper work at the very least.”
A selection of Twitter reaction to the penalty miss, including posts from frustrated Sunderland fans, can be seen below:
