A number of Leeds United supporters have been reacting on social media after statistics-based Twitter account LUFC Data shared a breakdown of Patrick Bamford’s display against Barnsley.
The trip to Oakwell on Sunday was Bamford’s seventh appearance of the Championship campaign so far, in which the 26-year-old continued his consecutive run of outings in the starting line-up that have returned four goals this term (WhoScored).
A string of top-draw saves by Tykes goalkeeper Bradley Collins ensured Bamford could not add to his tally at the weekend, however, with the Grantham-born centre-forward denied with each of his three efforts on target, per WhoScored data.
Bamford also had a goal ruled out for offside, after Helder Costa was judged to have been beyond the last man when he received possession on the left-wing, from where he delivered a perfect cross to the back post for Bamford to head home in the 50th minute (Sky Sports).
Chances soon followed for Bamford to break the deadlock before being hauled off for Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah, but the former Middlesbrough man failed to connect with a fizzled cross by Costa and blazed a 63rd minute shot over the bar.
Had Bamford connected with Costa’s fizzled cross, he would have stretched his touches inside the box to nine, while improving his overall touch count beyond the 27 penned before his late departure.
The Nottingham Forest product also recorded a 64% pass accuracy rating from 14 attempted balls, was fouled twice, registered one ball recovery and won an aerial duel.
Bamford’s failure to record a fifth goal of the league campaign was the aspect of his Barnsley display that earned most Leeds supporters’ attention, while many also noted the amount of times he was fouled and that he offered the Whites an option in attack that could hold up the flow of play.
