Leeds United’s 1-0 loss away at QPR on Saturday meant that it is just one win from eight in all competitions for the Whites, and it also means they’re now just four points ahead or third-placed Fulham and five points from fifth-placed Brentford. However, fans are sticking by Kalvin Phillips despite his red card.
The central midfielder has been key to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds system over the past two years, and he’s played in all but one Championship game this season, 27 (via WhoScored). The Express described the reason for his dismissal as a ‘horror tackle’, and it’s hard to disagree with that. The card came on the 88th minute, so it wasn’t crucial to the outcome of the game, but he’ll now miss the next three matches.
The 24-year-old academy graduate posted to Twitter on Sunday morning to apologise for getting the red card, explaining how he’s a Leeds fan too and perhaps the frustration at the result was shown in his challenge. Many Leeds fans replied to give him their complete support though, with loads telling him he didn’t need to apologise.
