Leeds United fans were left blasting Patrick Bamford after his performance in the 1-0 loss at home to Wigan Athletic.
The number nine came under fire after he faltered in front of goal, having seven efforts with just three of them hitting the target (via WhoScored). His best opportunity came in the shape of a header, which he sent past the upright having been left unmarked in the penalty box (via BBC). He also had a further two attempts cleared off the line in what proved to be a frustrating afternoon for the former Middlesbrough man.
One fan didn’t hold back in his criticism of the forward.
Patrick Bamford celebrates like he did on Tuesday night then puts a performance in like that. Absolute horrible pathetic. #lufc

Following the game, former Southampton frontman Kevin Phillips claimed Bamford is a ‘favourite’ of manager Marcelo Bielsa as he suits the Argentine’s style of play (via Football Insider). Fans weren’t too kind to the 26-year-old as they tore into him for his display in the loss at home to the Latics as they took to Twitter to react. Here is a selection of tweets from the Elland Road faithful:
Bamford misses 15 sitter scores 1 then cups his ear to fans 😂😂 Bamford really has cost is this season no matter what you say, chance after chance after chance and most are sitters #lufc

Love Bielsa, but his stubbornness annoys me. What was the harm in putting Augustin on the bench? He might not know your tactics, but he’s a striker, he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. Poveda aswell, what’s the point?
All know Bamford will start at Forest #lufc

I’ve never not said this, Patrick Bamford is nowhere near a top level striker in this division. This isn’t a scapegoat, the players around him don’t do enough but YET again 4 very good chances for PB, nothing.
JKA or Poveda not featuring is laughable but predictable.#LUFC

No defending Bamford anymore. The celebration on Tuesday was it for me, massive two fingers up to the fans who backed him and chanted his name (not even the first time he’s done it either). That’s before you even start to assess his actual performance today. #lufc

There is no doubt in my mind that Lassoga would have more goals than Bamford at this stage of the season.
Not a single element of doubt!
Ten times the finisher Bamford is!#lufc
