In the first half of the season, Leeds United were in great form. Indeed, it seemed like almost everything the side did came off as the Whites seemed to be on course for promotion to the Premier League.
Following a loss away to Millwall, Marcelo Bielsa’s side went on a run of 11 league games without defeat, form which saw the Yorkshire outfit notch up seven consecutive wins and average over two points per game. However, Cardiff City turned up at Elland Road and the Bluebirds put in a stunning second half performance as they came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3.
Since that draw, the wheels seem to have come off, with the team winning just two of their last 10 fixtures across all competitions, as per WhoScored, averaging a meagre 0.9 points per game in the Championship. Everything seems to have gone pear-shaped for Bielsa’s men as they desperately search for a response ahead of a tricky trip to promotion rivals Brentford with some fans being left worried.
Let’s take a look at some of the responses to the points per game stat:
And a London fixture. You couldnt make this up

I’ve already succumbed to the fact that automatic promotion just isn’t realistic. Only 5 points away from 7th. Dangerous territory with everyone around us picking up points. We don’t have players with the right mindset to play for this club. It’s more evident now than ever.

It’s mad. There is no way we should have dropped like we have. After drawing the Cardiff game and losing to Fulham we should have been able to put that down as a blip and reset. Instead we’ve been unable to get going ever since. It makes no sense other than they are mentally weak

Oh noooooooo😱😱😱

I’m actually screaming inside – the players are playing like the 2nd half playoff game against Derby. I can’t see it changing . Bielsa has gotten the max out of these players but ultimately the majority of players are not good enough #leeds #lufc https://t.co/ptCqOl6jUI

It only gets worse from here I’m afraid. We are ridiculously mediocre. https://t.co/MpdL1BR1t0
