Leeds United fans were left feeling pleased with the side after some statistics emerged from their narrow win over Reading.
At the beginning of the season, the Whites possessed one of the best defences in England’s top four divisions and among the top five leagues in Europe as they let in 10 goals in just 21 Championship games. However, a drop in form from December through to the start of February has seen Brentford overtake the Yorkshire outfit as the league’s best defensive side (via WhoScored).
However, they were back to their best against Reading as they reduced the Royals to just two shots on target (via BBC). Mark Bowen’s men were also able to play just four passes into Leeds’ penalty area with the Elland Road outfit looking solid at the back (via LUFCDATA). Fans were left complimenting the backline as they took to Twitter to react to the stat about their opponent’s lack of attacking threat.
One fan called the stats ‘impressive’, whilst another called it Marcelo Bielsa’s ‘new philosophy’.

Bielsa’s new philosophy, if you can’t score; don’t let them.

Here are some of the reactions from other supporters:
We’ve returned to being the best team in the division. Opposition aren’t getting a look in. Not many goals in our front 4 though. Hopefully ‘own goal’ can step up to the plate more often.

I love it that Leeds have mastered a difficult combo…’smothering’ football mixed with exciting play.🙂

And some “pundits” say we haven’t learnt from last season 🤦🏾♂️
Every team has a bad spell you just need to limit the amount of bad spells and the length of them in the league— Deanoooh 50 Shades of Ray (@deanoooh2020) February 23, 2020
