Many Leeds United fans have reacted to a tweet by BBC Sport asking ‘What makes Marcelo Bielsa the greatest coach in the world?’
The tweet shares an article from January 2020 which shares statements from Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on the Leeds manager’s talents and coaching methods.
Bielsa arrived at Elland Road in 2018 after having had spells with Athletic Bilbao, Marseille, and the Argentina national side to name a few.
As a manager, the Argentine has won Gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics with his country, whilst also finishing runner up in the Europa League final with Athletic Bilbao in 2011/2012.

Having guided Leeds to a play-off semi-final spot last season, Bielsa was unable to guide his side past Frank Lampard’s Derby County.
However, the 64-year-old has since masterminded his squad to bounce back, sitting top of the Championship table as things stand and on the verge of automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Reacting to BBC Sport’s tweet sharing the article from January, Leeds fans gave their opinion on the Argentine coach and it is fair to say that many agreed that he was a super-talented coach. One even claimed that he is “up there with the best.”
It is easy to see why they would think that, given he took over a team who finished 13th in the Championship and now has them on the verge of promotion with a win ratio of 53.8%…

He’s up there with the best. Look at what he works with and then how they turn out later. Look at the foundations he puts in place at clubs and how they continue to follow his methods after he’s left. A great coach improves players, an average one use money to be successful.

Bielsa is a genius. His passion to improve players is incredible. He (along with the management team) has transformed the playing side and also the mindset and the philosophy of the club. Without him, we’d be nowhere near
