Leeds United fans were showing love for Luke Ayling after the defender’s interview following their 2-0 loss away to promotion rivals Nottingham Forest.
In his post-match interview with the club (via Barney), the full-back claimed that the opening goal from the Reds ‘killed’ the whole team. Sammy Ameobi scored the game’s opening goal when he struck home a powerful effort inside Kiko Casilla’s near post in the 31st minute (via BBC).
One fan thinks the right-back was about to cry.
Looks likes he’s about to burst into tears 😔

Ayling also claimed that the team started ‘alright’ and went on to bemoan the fact the side haven’t scored the opening goal in a game for a while. Indeed, the last time the Whites scored the first goal in a fixture was the 5-4 win over Birmingham City, way back on the 29th of December (via WhoScored) as their form has collapsed. Fans were showing love and support for the 28-year-old as they took to Twitter to react to his interview. Here is a selection of tweets from the Elland Road faithful:

He’s only human. He’s as gutted as we are. If he looks like he doesn’t care, fans would go mental. Can’t win whatever he does

‘The first goal killed us’ who says this isn’t a psychological team issue?

He’s been our best player for me and worryingly he’s our biggest threat in attack. Can’t do it all.

Think he’s losing belief in the ‘process’ Barney, he knows what’s going on!

Thing about Ayling – despite his limited ability; he gets Leeds, he never gives less than his max and he cares about the supporters.
