The agent of Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has revealed that Leeds United made an offer for the player last month.

The Lowdown: Elneny’s contract situation

Elneny, who has been with the Gunners since 2016, has made just one Premier League start this season.

The Egypt international did play against the Whites in the Carabao Cup back in October and is out of contract at the Emirates at the end of June.

He has made 140 appearances for Arsenal during his six-year stay, but it seems as if his days in the capital could be numbered due to his contract situation along with the number of sides keen on his services.

The Latest: Leeds offer

As reported by Sporx, Elneny’s agent, Alan Nazmy, confirmed that a number of clubs made an offer to sign the defensive midfielder last month.

Leeds, along with Newcastle and Watford, were just three sides who made a winter window bid for Elneny, however, Mikel Arteta blocked an Arsenal exit.

The Verdict: Can see why

As we know, Leeds failed to add to their midfield ranks last month, despite Victor Orta’s wishes to bring in two and making multiple bids for RB Salzburg's Brenden Aaronson.

The club were after a defensive midfielder due to Kalvin Phillips’ absence, so it’s easy to see why Orta moved for Elneny.

He has plenty of Premier League and international experience, and with Leeds having just four senior midfield options, it will be interesting to see if the club go back in for Elneny, should he become a free agent in July.
