It has been a whirlwind of a year for Samuel Saiz, hasn’t it?
Having started the 2018/19 campaign as a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans at Leeds United, it seemed as if he was on course to become a modern-day hero at Elland Road.
However, despite starting the season in encouraging form, the Spaniard soon lost his rhythm which eventually culminated in him losing his place in the first team to Ezgjan Alioski.
After being left out altogether for the majority of the Whites’ fixtures in December, Saiz was loaned out a month later to La Liga side Getafe.
Despite being given several opportunities to impress for the Azulones, the winger ultimately failed to make a positive impression on their boss Jose Bordales.
With Getafe unwilling to secure a permanent switch for Saiz and Leeds wanting to cut ties with the 28-year-old, he must have thought that things couldn’t possibly get any worse.
Yet unfortunately for Saiz, it has.
After Spanish police raided his former side SD Huesca amid allegations of match-fixing earlier today, the winger is now being investigated in his role in an incident dating back to before his move to Leeds in 2017.
Although newspaper AS (as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post) have reported that Saiz has not yet been arrested for his alleged involvement, the news is sure to be very concerning for his parent club.

But we didn’t go up because we needed him at the club. Lost all respect that I had for him for what he did against Newport County last year. This is just the icing on the cake. Don’t know how we can sell him on now but hopefully we can get him off the books.
