Liverpool have revisited their interest in young Torino and Netherlands centre-back Perr Schuurs, according to a new transfer update.

The Lowdown: Schuurs a former target

The Reds were linked with a move for the 23-year-old back in his Ajax days, having emerged as a hugely promising defender in the mould of Matthijs de Ligt.

Since then, Schuurs has traded the Eredivisie giants for Torino and he is impressing for the Serie A side, making seven league starts this season and averaging 3.1 clearances per game, which would rank him third in the Liverpool squad for that metric.

Now, it looks as though Liverpool's interest in the Dutchman is far from dead and buried.

The Latest: Liverpool again keen on move

According to TuttoMercatoWeb [via Sport Witness], Liverpool remain 'attentive' towards Schuurs. The Reds are 'closely following' the youngster as a successor to Virgil van Dijk, although Atletico Madrid are also considered candidates to snap him up.

His current Torino deal doesn't expire until 2026 after only arriving in the summer, however, meaning a hefty fee may likely be required to prise him away.

The Verdict: Gomez replacement?

There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp needs to focus on a rebuild of his squad in the coming transfer windows, with so many areas of the pitch currently ageing.

Van Dijk and Joel Matip are both 31 now, while Joe Gomez, who was originally seen as the long-term partner for Ibrahima Konate, has suffered a number of serious injuries and completely lost his form and confidence.

Schuurs' potential is obvious, having actually been compared to Van Dijk as a player in the past and starting week in week out in a tough league in Italy, and he could now be seen as Konate's future partner at centre-back.
