Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp will not want to leave Anfield

The City Ground, Nottingham, Britain - October 22, 2022. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp arrives at the stadium.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not ‘want to leave’ Anfield despite current ‘concerns’, according to BBC pundit Alan Hutton.

The Lowdown: Disappointing start

Prior to the 2-0 European victory over Napoli in midweek, the Reds suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats at the hands of Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

The Merseyside outfit’s underwhelming start to the season now sees them ninth in the table, already 15 points off current league leaders Arsenal after just 12 games.

The Latest: Hutton’s one-word verdict

Asked by Football Insider whether Klopp would consider leaving at the end of the 2022/23 campaign if Liverpool don’t finish in the top four, Hutton said:

“No. I do not think he will want to leave.

“Liverpool at this moment in time are coming to the end of a cycle. I think they need reinvestment. They have started it in forward areas of the pitch. But, midfield is obviously a concern, there are defensive concerns.

“To sit here at this moment in time and think Liverpool are five points off the relegation zone is crazy. They will not go down, of course they will bounce back but you would never foresee this.

“I think Klopp will know what problems he has. He is an intelligent manager and he will do everything that he possibly can to fix it.

“They might not make the top four, they could sneak in but they will be there or thereabouts. He will know that the playing squad need help and I am sure he will be doing everything he can to get those bodies through the door.“

The Verdict: Right man for the job

Whilst Liverpool are in a worrying position compared to previous seasons, Klopp is still the right man for the job and there is no need to panic.

The German boss has an outstanding record at Anfield, having won 248, drawn 82 and lost just 68 of his 398 matches in charge, averaging 2.08 points per match (Transfermarkt).

With seven competitive Reds titles to his name, the 55-year-old will know what it takes to turn things around and there’s no better person to do just that than him.
