Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern have been readying themselves for life in League 1 next season as Jack Ross looks to rebuild their squad.
Ross has been linked with a number of different signings recently, but one in particular has been pleasing the Black Cats fans on Twitter.
TEAMtalk have reported that ex-Sunderland midfielder Grant Leadbitter is in talks to return to the club he spent seven years with between 2002 and 2009. The Englishman made 111 appearances for Sunderland, scoring 11 goals during that time.
The 32-year-old made 32 appearances in the Championship for Middlesbrough last season, chipping in with three goals and one assist. It seems as though he would be willing to drop down to League One in order to rejoin the Black Cats.
Sunderland fans on Twitter have been expressing their excitement with the potential deal.
Would be over the moon to see Grant Leadbitter back at Sunderland. We're crying out for a proper captain and if it's somebody who loves the club then all the better. Would instantly become our best midfielder and think he'd bring Honeyman and Robson on leaps and bounds too.

I'd have him back, would be more than capable at league 1 level and could hopefully get across to new players what the club means to the area. Would most likely be captain aswell
