Responding to a tweet by sports journalist Nicolo Schira, many Manchester City supporters have disagreed with the notion that star winger Raheem Sterling’s contract could be extended – with Schira’s update stating that the club could offer him a new deal until 2024.
Sterling, who has failed to score a Premier League goal since bagging a brace in the 3-2 defeat at Wolves back in December, could be on the verge of a new deal regardless – with Schira’s tweet also claiming that the Englishman’s wages could rise to £18.6 million per year.
The 25-year-old, in the midst of a current dry spell, has still managed to accumulate 20 goals and seven assists in 39 appearances for the club this season (Transfermarkt) – including a hat-trick in the Champions League against Atalanta. However, despite his past heroics, many City fans have bashed the reported news that he could be offered a contract extension – with one fan even claiming that it is ‘time to sell him‘ whilst another laments the wage offer as ‘laughable‘.
