Manchester United have ‘mentioned’ Barcelona forward Memphis Depay’s name ‘a few times’ ahead of January, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.

The Lowdown: Attracting interest

The Dutchman’s contract at Camp Nou is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning that the winter market will present Xavi’s side with the final opportunity to cash in or risk losing him on a free next summer.

The Premier League giants are one of several clubs to have recently been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, and these reports have now been backed up in a potential move that could see him return to Old Trafford.

The Latest: Depay to United?

Taking to Twitter, Stone revealed that United have discussed the possibility of making another move for Depay and admits that he is one of the few players who would fit the club’s current measures.

“Memphis Depay been mentioned a few times as kind of striker Man Utd might try + sign next month. Doesn't mean they will but when you add availability to Ten Hag's 'it has to match the sporting criteria but also the financial criteria' it does not leave many options.”

The Verdict: Risk worth taking

Depay has previously been dubbed a ‘legend’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and despite it not working out at United the first time around, signing him for a second time is definitely a risk worth taking.

The Moordrecht native has scored 14 goals and registered two assists during his time in La Liga and is currently averaging an impressive three shots per game, despite receiving limited opportunities.

Erik Ten Hag has brought the best out of Marcus Rashford again since his arrival and there’s no reason why he couldn’t do it with his fellow countryman should he put pen to paper next month.
