Aston Villa could approach Newcastle United to discuss the potential signing of midfielder Danny Guthrie, according to the Mirror.

Guthrie has made a good impact in the Newcastle United side with Cheik Tiote absent but Aston Villa are looking for recruits following the news of Jermaine Jenas’ season-long injury.

The former Liverpool youngster is contracted to Newcastle until the end of the season, meaning that Villa could get a cheap deal for the 24-year-old.

However, Newcastle may want to keep hold of Guthrie with Tiote likely to be away at the African Cup of Nations in January.
