Mike Ashley no closer to selling club amid false rumours

It’s been a frustrating season so far this year for Newcastle as The Magpies failed to make a good start to their Premier League campaign and are currently 14th in the table and are only one point off the relegation zone.

After a summer where Mike Ashley failed to invest into the squad, Newcastle made a terrible start. Recently, however, Newcastle pulled off two superb results as they beat Bournemouth and Watford.

The two wins are a high point in a season where Newcastle have been poor. Aside from the below-par performances of the side, the future of Rafa Benitez is still uncertain while the future ownership of the club still seems completely up in the air.

In what will come as bittersweet news, the Chronicleis reporting that Mike Ashley will back Benitez in the transfer market but also that the recent rumours linking a US consortium with a bid for the club, are false.

The Breakdown

It’s quite obvious that Ashley isn’t a popular man on Tyneside and rightly so as the owner has criminally underfunded the club.

Thankfully, for Ashley, he has one of the best managers in the country at the club and with Benitez at the helm, he has won promotion back to the Premier League and guided the side to 10th in the table last year.

This year it looks as though he’ll have to work his magic once again, as Newcastle’s squad had little to no investment over the summer.

The news of Ashley’s January investment will come as a welcome surprise to the fans and it will certainly be needed.
