Real Madrid are looking to take advantage of the racial controversy surrounding Luis Suarez by making Liverpool an audacious £30m offer for their Uruguayan striker in the January transfer window, the Daily Mail has reported.
Reports in Spain suggest Real coach, Jose Mourinho, will offer Suarez an escape from the cauldron of hate he is likely to face when he returns from his 8-match ban for the unsavoury race row involving he, and Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra.
Suarez is almost certain to be greeted by a chorus of boos from opposition support in every of Liverpool’s away fixtures, with Anfield offering the only realistic opportunity of escape, even then, visiting support will be doing their utmost to unsettle the 24 year-old.
The Uruguayan international has lit up the Premier League with some extraordinary performances since arriving from Ajax last January receiving wide acclaim, but such reputation has been somewhat tarnished. The FA added further to Suarez’s woes by handing him a one-match ban and £20,000 fine for a hand gesture aimed at Fulham fans in Liverpool’s December visit to Craven Cottage.
The manner in which Liverpool have dealt with the Patrice Evra race row has come under heavy criticism but the loyal stance they have shown their player, whether right or wrong, cannot be questioned. Suarez has a steely-edge to his character and appears to have the attitude of someone who will want to repay the loyalty, faith and support shown in him.
However, if Dalglish’s men fail to qualify for next seasons Champions League, holding onto the Suarez may become a problem, giving the Uruguayan another reason to escape the country.
In the meantime, Liverpool will rebuff any sort of approach for their star man. Madrid’s plans of a reported £30m bid for Suarez would surely fall well short of any valuation Kenny Dalglish has for his world-class talent, who could expect to demand at least double the £22.8m he paid Ajax.
The inevitable forthcoming abuse and general dislike directed at Suarez may ultimately end up with the striker leaving the country. There would be no shortage of potential suitors if Suarez became available – Inter Milan, Juventus and Paris St. Germain are already keeping a keen eye on any developments at Anfield, but for now, ‘El Pistolero’ will be chomping-at-the-bit to repair his reputation in England with Liverpool.
