Newcastle United supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday to move out of the Premier League’s relegation zone up to the dizzy heights of 13th place.
Rafa Benitez’s men slipped into the division’s bottom three prior to kick-off following Huddersfield Town’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth earlier in the day, placing even greater pressure on the Magpies ahead of the visit of Jose Mourinho’s United. Yet the North East giants produced a superb display to deservedly get the better of the Red Devils, with Matt Ritchie’s strike midway through the second half enough to clinch a vital three points for Benitez’s side, thus propelling them up to 13th place in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Newcastle fans in the Tavern this week, several of whom are hoping that Sunday’s massive win can be the catalyst for further victories between now and the end of the season to secure their place in the top-flight.
In the meantime though, there has been some more good news for our resident Magpies supporters, as defender Paul Dummett has penned a new long-term deal with the club, as per the club’s official website.
The 26-year-old came up through the ranks at St James’ Park and has since gone on to play 131 matches for the club, nine of which coming in the Premier League this term in a campaign hindered by injury.
Yet with five successive league starts, it’s clear that the left-back is a key part of things under Benitez, and he has thus been rewarded with a new long-term deal at the North East giants.
And this news stimulated quite a response from Magpies fans on Twitter, many of whom are delighted with the key agreement…

Very happy at this… Often too easy for people to give him stick, but he’s a local lad done good! We should be backing him to be a star! #nufc
