The Newcastle United squad touched down on Tyneside this morning following their pre-season trip to Asia, and it will be a crucial week for Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are preparing for their upcoming Premier League and Champions League campaigns, but have endured a difficult few months in the summer transfer window.
Despite returning to training today, the future of star striker Alexander Isak remains unresolved.
Meanwhile, their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is still ongoing, with Manchester United now showing strong interest in the Slovenian forward.
Newcastle have faced rejection after rejection, with most of their top targets so far opting to join other top-flight clubs – an incredibly frustrating outcome for everyone involved.
Nevertheless, the club are also working to finalise some outgoings, and this morning, news broke that newly promoted Burnley are in talks with Newcastle to sign goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
According to Sky Sports News, a permanent deal is progressing for the shot-stopper to make the move imminently.
Writing on social media, the broadcaster claimed:
“BREAKING: Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has emerged as the primary target for Burnley.”
“Talks with Newcastle are understood to be progressing over a permanent deal.”
Should Newcastle sell Martin Dubravka?

The Magpies are no strangers to negotiating with Burnley over goalkeepers, having spent almost two years attempting to sign James Trafford from the Clarets.
The irony isn’t lost on the fact that Trafford’s eventual move to Manchester City has now prompted Burnley to return to Newcastle in pursuit of a replacement.
Amid the ongoing Isak saga, Newcastle have completed a deal to sign former Southampton and Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale, who will likely operate as a backup and rotation option to first-choice keeper Nick Pope.
Ramsdale arrives with a point to prove after struggling to find some stability at club level, and with the World Cup on the horizon, he’ll be determined to make an impression.
Dubravka has featured for just 45 minutes in pre-season against Celtic, and although it was expected that he would travel with Howe’s squad to South Korea, the 36-year-old ultimately did not make the trip.
As a result, selling Dubravka makes perfect sense at this stage.
If the club can secure a decent fee for their £40k-per-week stalwart, it would represent a smart piece of outgoing business.
