Chelsea dealt crushing blow in pursuit of 20 G/A La Liga star

Chelsea enjoyed another busy summer transfer window as Xabi Alonso continued to reshape his squad at Stamford Bridge.

Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Maxence Lacroix and Emi Martinez were among the notable arrivals, with the Blues spending heavily to build a squad capable of competing under their new head coach.

Despite that spending, Chelsea remain interested in further reinforcements.

However, their reported pursuit of one La Liga star has now suffered a major setback.

Chelsea dealt Arda Guler blow

Chelsea have reportedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid star Arda Guler, with the 21-year-old set to sign a new long-term contract at the Bernabeu.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Guler has agreed a new deal that will keep him at Real Madrid until June 2032.

The Turkey international joined Madrid from Fenerbahce in 2023 and has developed into an important attacking option, operating mainly as a midfielder or winger. He recorded 20 goals and assists during the 2025-26 campaign.

Guler was reportedly on Chelsea’s radar this summer, with Alonso understood to have encouraged the club to explore a move for the player he previously worked with at Real Madrid.

However, Romano reports that Guler has now agreed to remain in Spain, with the terms of his new contract accepted and an announcement expected soon.

The news represents a significant setback for Chelsea and Alonso, who may now have to turn their attention towards alternative attacking targets.
