Newcastle United: Fans love takeover news from Keith Downie

Many Newcastle United fans loved the takeover news coming from Keith Downie after he revealed some potentially crucial information on his official Twitter page.

The Sky Sports journalist revealed that someone who is very familiar with takeovers of a football club said to him that “there’s always a period where takeovers go very quiet and then bang – it happens”. This should give plenty of members of the Toon faithful some welcome encouragement as there had been doubts creeping in about whether the deal will actually go through.

Nevertheless, these words could have lifted the mood on Tyneside. Downie went on to explain that “the current NUFC situation is not unusual, other than the fact much of it has been played out in the media”. This is according to his source, which again could lift the spirits at St. James’ Park as it gives Magpies fans some reassurance that they should have little to worry about at this stage.

Downie went on to explain that by “quiet”, the source meant in the length of time it takes to be ratified by the Premier League. Some supporters have been questioning why the process is taking as long as it is, but the journalist has at least offered some perspective that they will surely appreciate.
