Lots of Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on social media to reports by the Daily Mail claiming Andy Carroll will miss the Magpies’ trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday.
Carroll is yet to represent Newcastle in any fixture since returning to his boyhood side on Deadline Day, as the former West Ham United striker is still recovering from the ankle surgery carried out before his release by the East London outfit.
Newcastle had been hoping that Carroll would be in a position where he could make his second Toon debut against another of his former sides Liverpool, but the 30-year-old is yet to take to the training fields alongside his first-team colleagues in the North East.
The Daily Mail understand there has not been any setbacks during his rehabilitation process, and suggest the St. James’ Park natives trip to Leicester City at the end of September is appearing as a more realistic fixture for Carroll to make his return.
Gateshead-born Carroll has been working with Newcastle’s physios and fitness coaches over the past month, but still needs to prove his fitness, having last played a competitive game on February 27 when he captained West Ham against Manchester City (TransferMarkt).
The 9-cap former England international played in 14 fixtures across all competitions in what proved to be his final campaign at the London Stadium, with his outings totalling 568 minutes – the lowest tally of his senior career since the 2006/07 term, in which he made his first Newcastle debut.
Here are a selection of the reactions shared in response to Carroll being ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to face the current league leaders Liverpool…
Signing an injured player was the setback from the outset.

Keep him for the lesser games, can’t see us getting anything there anyway. Be brilliant at home if crowd get behind him.

Fiver he won’t play before Xmas. Starts twice in January. Scores 3 then out for 6 months. #nufc

But the 4th most contributive striker outside the Big 6 wasn’t worth keeping because he was a “Granpa”
Let’s spend wages on a different “Granpa” that can’t even make it onto training pitch never mind make it onto pitch.
I wouldn’t mind but Carroll won’t even contribute.
