Some Newcastle United fans have slammed comments made by former player (now club employee) Shola Ameobi as he has broken his silence on the prospective takeover at St. James’ Park.
Speaking to Sky Sports (via ChronicleLive), the loan manager revealed that he was one of the staff members to have been furloughed but stated that he had some reassurance on his job from Lee Charnley. Ameobi attempted to echo supporters of the Tyneside club by claiming that they knew Mike Ashley has wanted to sell the Magpies for a number of years but it has not quite materialised.
He also remarked that members of the Toon faithful want to see investment poured into the club if the deal goes ahead. Ameobi added that there is a real excitement and buzz as to how and what could happen going forward. The ex-striker summarised by saying that ‘the sky’s the limit’ in terms of what the club can achieve under the right owners.

Despite the 38-year old’s somewhat positive comments, these Newcastle fans slammed him on Twitter, with one supporter calling him a “sympathiser” for Ashley:
Hope he’s one of the first out the door. A great example of “jobs for the boys”. No real experience in the role but given it for chumming up to Ashley’s regime on SkySports. Tarnished his reputation with the fans in exchange for a cushy job.

Trying to make him sound important…serious questions have to be asked of his success in a role he was never qualified for

All the ones that have defended Ashley need booting out the club!

Only saying it because he knows he’ll be the 1st employee out the door.
