Newcastle fans have been left wanting under Mike Ashley’s ownership. The Magpies are more often than not disappointed by their transfer dealings. However, as The Chronicle reports that Yohan Cabaye is available for free, it’s a move that they’re all desperate for.

This sort of transfer is usually one that the Geordies would be turning their noses up at. The Frenchman is now getting on a bit, and despite the fact he used to be a hero in the Northeast as far as the St James Park faithful were concerned, the midfielder is now 33-years-old and has left Saudi Arabian club Al-Nasr after the club announced they’d be parting with him just six months into his two-year deal.
Cabaye’s first spell at Newcastle lasted just three and a half seasons. The midfielder signed from LOSC Lille in summer 2011 before being signed in a £19 million deal by PSG in January 2011. That move was one that left the Geordies absolutely gutted. The Frenchman had long been one of their marquee players, and his 26 goals in 175 Premier League games will long live in the memories of Newcastle fans, so much so that they’d be desperate to see him add to those figures.

Hayden or Cabaye? Even if he's not the same player he was, surely he's a better option?

If Ashley agreed to this I'd give cabaye a piggy back all the way to sjp if he wanted.

Best player we had since Shearer but he’s past his best now for me like

Give Hayden what he wants and bring in cabaye

The Geordies would love to make a move to sign their former fan favourite, and it’s hard to see Mikle Ashley turning down a free transfer.
