It’s a fair statement to say that Newcastle United fans aren’t the biggest Michael Owen fans in the world. The former Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid striker spent four seasons at St James Park, and for the most part, he was injured or lacked interest. However, the 39-year-old has claimed to set the record straight in his new book.

The claim from Owen, that you can read a little bit more about in The Chronicle, is something that would interest a lot of fans had it been coming from someone else. However, the Geordies have absolutely no interest in Michael Owen or anything he may have to say after his spell at the club, even if he did score 30 goals for them in his 79 appearances.
For a long, long time Owen was also the club’s record transfer buy. He came into the club for big money from Real Madrid in 2005 before leaving for free when Manchester United came calling four years later, and whilst the striker may have a good insight into the early days under Mike Ashley and be able to lay some truths on the table, the Geordies are having absolutely none of it.

The Magpies all feel very strongly about this, and Michael Owen need not be shocked when his book sales are at an all-time low in the Northeast.
