Newcastle United have been chasing the signing of a striker ever since they confirmed the departure of Callum Wilson – but it hasn’t gone to plan so far.
The Magpies are preparing for their upcoming Champions League and Premier League campaigns, yet uncertainty still surrounds the future of their forward line.
That said, they’ve conducted some impressive business with the signing of Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, securing the right-wing position for years to come.
However, the centre-forward crisis at St James’ Park escalated beyond what any supporter could have imagined when star striker Alexander Isak threw a spanner in the works by requesting the opportunity to explore options elsewhere.
The Sweden international has not featured in any of Newcastle’s pre-season fixtures so far, and this weekend, the club will host the Sela Cup on home turf.
Isak has now resumed training at the club’s facilities after spending the past week or so at his former club Real Sociedad’s training ground, working individually on his match fitness.
Meanwhile, the club have been actively looking to either replace or reinforce the striker role, with a pursuit of Benjamin Sesko well underway.
However, they face stiff competition from Manchester United, who have confirmed their interest in the talented goal scorer.
It was also reported over the weekend that Newcastle are keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos, but no formal approach or bid has been made as yet.
Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on the Magpies’ pursuit of their targets.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist revealed:
“As of now, Šeško has not decided yet. Newcastle are waiting. Ramos is appreciated but PSG want to keep him — it’d take a huge proposal to try and change things.”
Should Newcastle Sign Benjamin Šeško?

The most important priority for Newcastle right now is to secure a centre-forward who is committed to the club’s ambitious project.
The ongoing saga with Isak may have tainted his legacy on Tyneside, and could leave supporters questioning the club’s trajectory if they are seen to give in to Liverpool’s advances.
Despite reportedly matching RB Leipzig’s valuation for Šeško, the Slovenian striker’s hesitation should raise a red flag for the Geordies – especially given the allure of guaranteed Champions League football this season.
That said, the 22-year-old’s indecisiveness may well stem from the uncertainty around Isak.
If the Swede does remain in the North East by the end of the transfer window, he will likely be reintegrated into the squad swiftly and resume his role as Eddie Howe’s undisputed starting striker.
Meanwhile, at Manchester United, there is a far more open competition for places, with their current attacking options struggling to reach double figures across all competitions.
All things considered, the coming weeks promise to be a rollercoaster for Newcastle fans and there are sure to be more twists and turns ahead in their ongoing striker search.
