Newcastle United: Fans concerned after Fabian Schar goal

Fabian Schar scored Switzerland’s goal in their 1-1 draw against Republic of Ireland and many who weren’t wearing green will have enjoyed it.

The Newcastle United centre-back brought the ball out from the back and laid it off to a midfielder. A direct run and three passes from his teammates later he was stroking the ball into the bottom corner, as shown by Sky Sports Football.

This makes it two goals in two for the Swiss defender, after he bagged in the Magpies’ 1-1 draw against Watford:

It would have been expected that Newcastle fans would have enjoyed seeing their defender score in such eye-catching fashion, but it appears many of them weren’t able to get the full enjoyment from the moment.

That is because they are concerned about the prospect of losing the centre-back and feel that he needs to be given a new contract, with his current one running out in the summer of 2021, as per Transfermarkt.

He has been an integral defensive figure for Steve Bruce’s side this campaign, averaging 3.3 tackles, 3.3 interceptions, 3.5 clearances and 1 block per Premier League game, as per WhoScored.
