After Newcastle United secured a dramatic last gasp 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend courtesy of a goal from Isaac Hayden, supporters have reflected over just how good it was to have Jamaal Lascelles back in the side after his return from injury.
The Londoners, who spurned various opportunities to take the lead at St. James’ Park, were eventually undone by a last-minute goal from Hayden which gifted the Magpies all three points on a memorable afternoon. Steve Bruce’s side, who managed to keep Chelsea out to go on and nick the game, were helped in part by the return of Lascelles – with the Englishman winning 100% of his attempted aerial duels and accumulating a 7.4 rating on WhoScored.com.
As a result, supporters have lauded his return to the first team ahead of the second portion of their campaign – with one fan even going on to hint that he is better than Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
By comparison, Lascelles edges his compatriot in terms of blocks (0.9) and clearances (5.4) made per game – whilst Maguire eclipses the Magpies defender when it comes to successful tackles (1.1) on average in the Premier League.
