Newcastle fans in the Tavern last night were very critical of ex-player Moussa Sissoko after he left much to be desired during Spurs’ rampant 6-1 victory over League One Rochdale in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
The 28-year-old, who can play in a number of positions across midfield, had a tough start to his life in North London but seemed to be getting back on track this season after a poor first season with the Lilywhites. Questions were asked of the French international when Mauricio Pochettino paid £30 million to sign him from the Magpies on deadline day in summer 2016. After a number of impressive performances for his country at Euro 2016, doubts about Sissoko’s work rate were cast aside and Tottenham beat Everton to sign him late in the window.
A number of lacklustre showings in a season were the man rated at £18 million by Transfermarkt failed to score a goal in 34 appearances seemed to signal an early end to his Tottenham career, however a slight resurgence this season has seen him put in some promising displays, giving Spurs’ fans belief that they might be getting the Sissoko that they so often see on the international stage.
Despite this recent turn of form, Sissoko was left blushing after a poor performance against lowly Rochdale, leading to Newcastle fans having a crack at their former man on Twitter. This is what was said…
