Newcastle United will be looking to build on their back-to-back Premier League wins versus Watford and Bournemouth when they travel to Turf Moor on Monday to face Burnley.
The Premier League clash against Sean Dyche’s men, however, is likely to come too soon for central defender Florian Lejeune who has just returned to training after recovering from injury.
Lejeune damaged his cruciate knee ligament back in pre-season, leaving Rafael Benitez with the impression that he would be without the Frenchman until the new year (via Evening Chronicle).
However, Lejeune’s rehabilitation has gone much better than expected with the 27-year-old now closing in on a return to first-team action.
At the back, Newcastle are already pretty strong or at least compared to other areas of the team thanks to the likes of captain Jamaal Lascelles and summer signing Federico Fernandez.
But given how £7.2m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Lejeune played towards the end of the last campaign, Benitez will be desperate to welcome the former Eibar man back to the squad.
Have a look at what Newcastle supporters are saying on Lejeune below…
