Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on social media after the Magpies announced that Achraf Lazaar has joined Serie B side Cosenza Calcio on loan for the 2019/20 season.
The 27-year-old was left out from the Toon’s 25-man Premier League squad and given the green light to secure a move away.
Talks were reportedly held with unnamed Italian sides earlier in the summer (Chronicle) as Lazaar strived to begin rebuilding his career in the Serie A, but failed to secure a deal despite interest from Hellas Verona (TuttoMercatoWEB).
FC Utrecht were also noted to be a known-admirer of the Moroccan full-back, who last featured in a competitive game for Newcastle two years ago when the North East outfit crashed out of the Carabao Cup at home to Nottingham Forest (TransferMarkt).
The EFL Cup clash was Lazaar’s tenth outing for Newcastle across all competitions, having signed for the club in 2016 on a five-year, £9,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) due to expire in the summer of 2021.
Since his arrival, Lazaar has spent time out on loan with Serie B side Benevento and Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday, who were managed by Steve Bruce at the time and offered the defender just four appearances.
He will now be hopeful of earning more minutes back in the Serie B with Cosenza Calcio, who are currently in 16th place and without a win after the opening two matchdays, having ended last season in tenth following their promotion from the third-tier.
Here’s a selection of the reactions shared by Newcastle supporters once the Magpies announced that Lazaar had returned to the Serie B on loan with Cosenza…

Getting rid of the ever growing pile of unused fringe players seems to be one of our biggest challenges. Since we insist on the gamble of cheep foreign imports. Buy cheep yu buy twice. Bet Ashleys bed rooms full of boxes of vhs tapes he bought for cheep that he cant get rid of

Prob the most pointless signing Rafa made. Not sure what he brings any more with all the loans.

Was he rafas worst signing? I smell a poll for @ToonPolls

I would say Jesus Gamez was up there however we all know he was actually signed as the clubs twitter ambassador and not an actual full back. Taking that into consideration he was Rafas most successful signing.

Remember when people thought Bruce coming in was a good chance for Lazaar and Aarons to finally get their break? Both left out of the squad completely.
