Many Newcastle United fans have reflected on former manager Steve McClaren’s failure to sign Charlie Austin despite their ex-coach publicly declaring interest in the striker.
Austin revealed on Twitter that a deal to join the Tyneside club was done on his side, but in the end a move never went through. The Magpies refused to meet the £12 million asking price for the 30-year old in the summer of 2015 as McClaren reportedly said at the time that Austin had been on the Toon’s radar for a while and would continue to be, as per The Guardian.

The Englishman had enjoyed a fine season at Queens Park Rangers in the 2014/15 campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League, according to Transfermarkt.
Austin has also represented Swindon Town, Burnley, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion in England, netting 157 times and making 30 assists in 354 total games, as per the website.
