Writing for the Newcastle Chronicle, reliable Magpies journalist Lee Ryder has singled out the ‘very impressive’ Isaac Hayden for his performance against Morecambe during a memorable 7-0 rout in the Carabao Cup third round – coming a year after the Englishman was heavily linked with a move away from St. James’ Park.
Hayden, who got on the scoresheet himself with a rare goal, bagging Newcastle’s fifth of the night, ran the show in midfield – having 117 touches of the ball in total and helping Steve Bruce’s side dominate on a memorable evening.

Indeed, it is arguably a rare occurrence to see the Magpies so rampant, even despite the lowly opposition, and there were an array of noteworthy performances to choose from after the club’s goal-laden display.
The Newcastle boss made nine changes to his side that lost 3-0 to Brighton in the Premier League last weekend, but the men who were deployed did a fine job – with Joelinton (2), Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Hayden, Matt Ritchie and skipper Jamaal Lascelles all scoring.
Now, after the side booked a fourth round trip to Newport County, journalist Ryder has singled out Hayden for praise in particular after a ‘very impressive’ display – with the 25-year-old once at the centre of reports linking him to a move away just this time last year.

Becoming a more regular starter over 2019/2020, making 29 appearances in total under Bruce, it’s safe to say he has cemented his place at Newcastle for the time being – and his latest outing wouldn’t have done any harm.
