Speaking to talkSPORT about the on-going takeover saga at Newcastle United, pundit Jim White had his say regarding the developments surrounding St. James’ Park – with Magpies fans hitting back at his positivity that the deal could indeed happen.
A report from the Guardian first hinted that a deal for the majority share of the club could be ‘90%’ complete, with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, a consortium led by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, brokered by former prospective buyer Amanda Staveley, well underway in negotiations for its sale.
However, judging by previous failed takeover attempts in the past, most recently from Staveley and Sheikh Khaled, Newcastle supporters have a reason to be cautious when it comes to rumours of a takeover. Magpie supporters have long been yearning for controversial owner Mike Ashley to sell the club, with the Sports Direct magnate displaying stubbornness in the past when it comes to letting go.
As a result, these Magpies supporters feel that there isn’t much room to dream, even if White feels the deal is nearing completion if Ashley allows it over the line – here’s how Newcastle fans responded to the pundit’s feelings surrounding the development on Twitter.
