The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has faced a backlash from several Newcastle United supporters after the chief football writer suggested the Magpies will beat their tally of 45 points from last season.
Ryder predicts Steve Bruce’s Black and Whites will “finish on 49 points” when the Premier League concludes.
Notably, he expects the Tyneside club to beat Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur at St’. James’ Park towards the end of the fixture list. Bruce has faced Spurs 22 times in his managerial career so far, winning just 3 games, drawing 6, and losing 13 matches in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
However, the 59-year-old’s side won the away game 1-0 at the beginning of the campaign, with Brazilian forward Joelinton scoring the match-winner (WhoScored).
At the moment, it is difficult to predict if-and-when the English top-flight will return so the Toon Army will have to wait and see if the journalist’s predictions will turn out to be accurate or not.

Lee, instead of these articles, could you write fantasy match reports as if we were taken over in the summer by the richest bidder. Probably cheer everyone up a bit 👍🏻

Not sure if you’ve realised but there’s a pandemic atm mate so they probably won’t reach the amount of points they got last season, no.
