Newcastle United: These fans respected the performance in Liverpool loss

When Newcastle United lined up to face Liverpool, there were some fans who were fearing the worst.

So while they ended up losing the game 3-1, plenty of their fans were not too disappointed, taking their side’s performance and fight as an encouraging sign:

Jetro Willems opened the scoring for the Magpies, but a brace from Sadio Mané and a second half strike from Mo Salah sealed the win for the Reds at Anfield.

There was, of course, also the incredible strike from Jetro Willems, where he cut inside Trent Alexander-Arnold and smashed the ball out of Adrian’s reach, into the top corner.

Newcastle only had 24.4% of possession in the game, as per WhoScored, which gives an indication of how hard they had to work to stay in the game for the length of time they did, as well as keeping the score down.

They also made 19 tackles, 11 interceptions and an impressive total of 33 clearances throughout the match.

With all of the effort and grit that went into the performance, many Newcastle fans were not complaining despite the result.
