The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that, according to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Manuel Pellegrini is getting closer and closer to be announced as the next West Ham gaffer. The news will come as a huge relief to Newcastle fans, who had been led to believe that Rafa Benitez was high up on the London club’s radar.

The Geordies propping our bar up would swap any transfer dealings this summer might provide for the assurance that Rafa Benitez will be staying. Now though, it looks like they’ll be keeping their magic Spaniard as the interest that West Ham had in him looks to have been turned towards the ex-Manchester City and Real Madrid man, Manuel Pellegrini. It will be interesting to Pellegrini back in English football after his two years spent in the Chinese Super League.
Rafa Benitez masterminded Newcastle’s incredible season this year as they went from looking dangerously close to the relegation zone over the festive period to a 10th placed Premier League finish following a superb second half of the season. Part of that was down to Benitez’s coy transfer dealings, where he brought in both Kenedy and Martin Dubravka on loan, who both put in a serious shift to help the club’s fans enjoy their season in the latter stages, knowing they were safe from relegation.

If Rafa is wise enough and he surely is..he will only sign a new contract after the end of the transfer window, unless he is given assurances in writing.
