Arsenal could trade Alexandre Lacazette for Moussa Dembele as transfer news emerged from L’Equipe that the north London club have expressed interest in the Lyon striker.
Dembele is apparently valued at €40m (roughly £36m) and had been enjoying a relatively impressive season so far before the coronavirus pandemic struck, scoring 22 goals and making seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.
Compare that to the Gunners’ own French forward in Lacazette, who has only managed nine strikes and three assists in 26 games in all competitions so far this campaign, as per Transfermarkt. For a player who cost £47.7m from Dembele’s current club Lyon back in 2017, and for a man who should arguably be around the peak of his powers at 29, Lacazette’s stats should probably be higher.
Given that Dembele is six years younger at 23, perhaps he has more potential to be great for the Emirates Stadium outfit if a move goes through. Also, as Lacazette is not getting any younger and arguably should be scoring more goals, perhaps a trade could be proposed by either party.
Who would you rather lead the Arsenal line?
Lacazette would see himself back at the club he left in his home country which may suit him. On the other hand, Dembele would move to Arsenal and, given his goalscoring record and potential, could well be a successful acquisition for the Gunners, with Lyon possibly getting a ready-made replacement in part-exchange.
Nevertheless, any details about a possible deal is all speculation in this moment in time, although Arsenal should consider swapping Lacazette for Dembele if the opportunity arises.
