Queens Park Rangers continued their fine start to the 2019/20 Championship season at the weekend, beating London rivals Millwall.
Mark Warburton’s side won 2-1 at the Den, a result which took them to fifth place and just a single point behind leaders Leeds United.
Nahki Wells bagged both goals for the R’s, however, despite the former Bradford City striker being the match winner on the day, it was another QPR player who was getting the plaudits on social media.
Centre-back Toni Leistner has been outstanding in recent weeks for the West London side, and he is quickly becoming a favourite amongst the fans at Loftus Road.
The 29-year-old German did not begin the season in the team, but came on as a 45th-minute substitute against Wigan Athletic and has played every minute since then.
His performances since breaking into the starting 11 have been excellent. He faced a big test against a Millwall side who are very direct and have big strikers in Matt Smith and Jón Daði Böðvarsson, but the former Union Berlin man won everything against the duo and kept them quiet.
According to WhoScored, Leistner won a total of 12 aerial duels during the 90 minutes whilst also making 10 clearances and one interception.
The official QPR Twitter account posted a highlight reel of the defender’s performance on Monday, and several supporters were full of praise for him. Here is what some of them had to say…
He was superb. Fantastic performance.
