It has been a quiet summer for the Magpies, with the side struggling to recruit as efficiently as most supporters would have hoped at the start of the summer.
Still, there is reason for optimism at St James’ Park, given how dominant the side were last season. Of course, the Premier League is a very different animal compared to the Championship, but there is still more than enough quality within the Newcastle first team to make a real go of it this season.
Fortunately, the Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have finally had some news to celebrate today, with reports from the Mirror suggesting that the Magpies are close to securing a new arrival.
According to the Mirror, Kenedy is set to move to Newcastle this summer, with the versatile Chelsea wideman unlikely to feature much for the Blues this season.
Able to play both in defence and midfield, Kenedy would certainly be a versatile and reliable option for Benitez, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern have responded to the news pretty positively.
The Newcastle fans on Twitter have had a very similar reaction, and whilst some are concerned at the Brazilian’s attitude, they concede that there is nobody better to put him on the straight and narrow than Rafa Benitez.
