
With his team’s much-discussed and seemingly unending problems in defense, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is reported to be weighing up a move for highly-rated Nigerian defender, Taye Taiwo. 25-year-old Taiwo wants out of French outfit Marseille amid reported interest from Europe’s big leagues.
Taiwo is currently valued at around £5 million but the Nigerian’s contract is up at the end of the season, and with the player not interested in signing a new one with Marseille, a free transfer move seems inevitable. The left-back, who has been at the Stade Velodrome since 2004 and is known for his powerful shot and marauding runs, has made his position very clear,

“I have decided not to extend my deal. In June I want to change club,” he told Nigerian newspaper La Nation. I don’t want to reveal who we are negotiating with, but it’s a club that plays in one of the three major European leagues.”
Having pushed Gareth Bale successfully forward to the left-wing position, Spurs are now short of cover at left-back and the shrewd Harry Redknapp has no doubt seen the value in bringing in an experienced international for nothing come the summer. However, Spurs will have a battle on their hands to obtain the Nigerian’s signature, with Benfica, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid all keen on the attacking left-back.
