Celtic: Fans flock to tweet featuring ‘rare silent footage’ from the 1967 European Cup final - Celtic

A Celtic fan recently shared some ‘rare silent footage’ from the 1967 European Cup final via a tweet which has caught the attention of many Hoops supporters.

Many Celtic fans have flocked to this tweet which shares “footage of the Celtic players, staff, and directors” on the pitch at Estádio Nacional, Lisbon, in the moments “leading up to kick-off” in the 1967 European Cup final, which was contested between the Hoops and Italian side Inter.

Celtic famously managed to earn a 2-1 victory over Inter in this contest, as the Hoops became “the first British side to win the trophy”. Additionally, Celtic managed to win this competition “at their first attempt” according to the BBC, who have described this 1967 European Cup final victory as the greatest achievement “in the history of Celtic Football Club”.

It might be understandable why this victory may occupy a special place in the club’s history, considering that in order to become the first British side to win the competition, they had to beat an Inter side who already had two European Cups to their name, having won the competition in both the 1963/64 and 1964/65 seasons.

Meanwhile, this European Cup victory is still the only one that the Hoops have managed to achieve in their history

Many Celtic supporters have been enjoying this “rare silent footage” from one of the club’s most historic achievements. Read the positive reactions of some Hoops fans, in response to the post which has recently shared this footage on social media in the tweets below.
