Celtic: Fans slate Charlie Nicholas in response to recent club tweet - Celtic

Some Celtic supporters have been slating former striker Charlie Nicholas on social media lately in response to a tweet that was recently posted by the club’s official Twitter account which shared an article from celticfc.net, celebrating Nicholas as one of the club’s “greatest goalscorers”.

According to this recent article, Nicholas scored a total of 125 goals for the Hoops over two separate spells at the club. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Nicholas’ first spell at Celtic lasted from July 1980 until July 1983 when he left to join Arsenal, who spent a transfer fee of £1.44m on the attacker.

The former Celtic star subsequently returned to Parkhead in July 1990, remaining at the club for another five years before departing in the summer of 1995, as per Transfermarkt.

Despite scoring 125 goals for the club, it may be fair to say that Nicholas has become an unpopular figure among some Hoops supporters. Celtic-focused website ‘67hailhail.com’, have described the former Hoops attacker and current Sky Sports pundit as “hugely unpopular in the Celtic supporters’ books due to his regular negativity towards the club”.

As a result of his alleged unpopular status among many Celtic fans, some Hoops supporters have been reacting negatively to their club’s recent tweet sharing an article honouring the former striker.
