Sheffield United: Reports suggest John Lundstram could depart - Premier League

Sheffield United have enjoyed their first season back in the Premier League as they finished ninth and everyone associated with the club will be loving how good a job Chris Wilder is doing as he has taken them from League One to England’s top flight in four seasons.

Some players have flourished in the division, and this has clearly not gone unnoticed as one is reportedly attracting interest from other teams in the division.

According to Sky Sports, John Lundstram has less than a year left on his contract at the Blades and he has has failed to agree to an extension following six months of discussions.

question mark

What is Chris Wilder's win percentage as Sheffield United manager?

If the negotiations continue this way, then Wilder might look to offload him this summer whilst the club can still get some money for the midfielder, and this has alerted four unnamed Premier League sides.

The 26 year-old Englishman, who has scored in all four professional divisions in the country, has been a great asset for the club in both defence and attack in the 2019/20 season as he scored five goals and picked up three assists, per WhoScored, whilst also averaging 1.3 shots, 1.4 tackles and one interception a game.

He has the joint-second most goals and assists in the Sheffield United squad, and if he were to depart it would definitely be a big loss. However the fact that negotiations are struggling probably highlights that the player wants more money to stay at the club than the Blades are willing to give him, and they cannot bow down to players demands as it could set a bad tone to the rest of the squad.

It is proven players at the club are wanting more money by the fact that earlier in the season, when Wilder was talking about contract negotiations and their funds compared to other Premier League sides, he said, via BBC Sport Sheffield, according to Sheffield United News, “At times they might be doubling and trebling salaries and at the moment, unfortunately, we aren’t in that ball-park yet.”

If Lundstram does believe he deserves more than the club believe they can give him, then it is best if he is sold this summer as they can get some money for the £7.20 million-valued player.
